SDE have been awarded a contract to conduct a 9 month programme of work to investigate the consequences of unintended initiation of stowed munitions inside the Air Weapons magazine on-board Royal Navy Vessels.
SDE will use cutting edge Explicit Dynamics modelling techniques to model the blast waves produced from detonation of a number of different weapon systems within the magazine, and assess the likely response of adjacent munitions. The study draws on SDE’s significant Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) expertise and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) experience, producing outputs which will help to inform future safety policies, magazine stowage planning and mitigation design.
